Ugh, THEY NEED TO QUIT!!!! I am soooo sick of experts spertin' off info just because they enjoy hearing their own voices! Look, we have gotten to the point where we know this diet well enough to know that they are telling lies, all lies!!!

Australians skipping breakfast? Anyone knows that if you skip breakfast then you are not doing Atkins. They are so stupid.

Wow, I cant believe this stuff. My breath smells fine, besides, everyone I talk to wants to talk about the 48 POUNDS I have lost in only about 3 months, and as for lack of energy, it seems since I started this diet I can't sit still!

Why don't us "Atkinites" hold a massive carb-burn in front of a krispy kreme store or something. Show those high-carb lovers not to mess with us!

A recent Federal Government report showed the resurgence of low-carb diets, together with more Australians skipping breakfast, could impede the growth of the baking industry.

so its the the baking industry the FG is worried about not the health of the people

Ah, the baking industry. White flour, sugar, corn syrup. Those lovely low fat ingredients we all know and love.

I am ever so curious to know what diet they do recommend that's been PROVEN effective long term. I mean.... the low fat "fad" made us all fat and high fat causes us to drop dead of clogged arteries. What's a person to do?

And Slimryan, don't you know that's all WATER WEIGHT?? (wtg btw! )

I will continue to think of low carbing as the healthiest way to go until:

1. it's proven dangerous and unhealthy.

2. Something else is proven the opposite.

I sit here with a total cholesterol of 168, 25 lbs gone in 5 weeks, clearer skin, no heartburn, brain fog gone, and even pms has disappeared and someone is going to tell me that's unhealthy?

I think that this part is the REAL reason they're worried about it! They just throw all the other stuff in to scare people. One more person out there discrediting Atkins when they don't even have the facts! Man! "no vegetables" my butt! I remember getting "in trouble" with some of the people who helped me out when I started on this forum because I wasn't eating enough vegetables LOL I try to get my salads and green beans, and other nice lower carb veggies in my daily intake now. Off my rant box now hehe

One of the most definative studies on syndrome X was done IN AUSTRALIA ON THE ABORIGINES. They are some of the most sensitive people in the world to excess carbohydrates. Maybe this is simply a campaign to snuff out the rest of them and complete the colonization once and for all? Sorry, guys, I am a hopeless conspiracy theorist. This just shows the obsurdity of government taking a stand on a diet plan. I am so glad to be an American! If someone tries to take MY lamb chop, our constitution allows me to own a gun so I can SHOOT THEIR SORRY...well, you know.

Perhaps Dr. Crowe supports the "Flatulance Diet," now popular with bean eaters. It forces you to concentrate by energetically propelling you off your seat every few minutes.

That actually makes alot of sense:

1) Alcohol
2) Dietary Carbs (By Glycemic Index)
3) Stored Carbs (Liver Glycogen)
4) Dietary Fat & Dietary Protein
5) Body Fat & Dietary Protein
6) Body Fat & Stored Protein (Muscle)

#1 is Alcohol Burning
#2 & #3 are Glucose Burning
#4 & #5 are Fat Burning
#6 is Starvation

Just curious. Where would you put sugar-alcohols and glycerin in this list, if at all?

Glycerine (glycerol) is interesting stuff. It is not quite a fat (because it has no fatty acids) - and yet it is the backbone of EVERY fat (tri-GLYCERIDEs). It termed a carbohydrate by the government because it is neither a protein nor a fat.

The body doesn't quite know what to do with it. First, it is poorly absorbed - and yet, it can be excreted in urine. In the liver, it can be converted into glucose - and yet, it has a minimal inpact on blood glucose levels. It is produced in the body as a residue when all the ketone bodies have been burned off a fat.

So, it can be a sugar, and it can be fat, and it is not a sugar, and it is not a fat.

(Yes, the science of metabolism is maddening sometimes.)

In addition to glycerine's uses in food, it is great at getting out mustard stains on clothing, and it is a major component of Astroglide. http://www.astroglide.com/products_astroglide.asp

At least that explains why astroglide tastes kinda sweetish.

Thanks for explaining glycerine more, I have been pretty confused about it recently. Not that I am even close to understanding it fully yet, but its progress.
