Question eating nitrate free bacon

I just realize that the bacon I've been eating is NOT nitrate free bacon. What are the consequesnces of eatung nitrate? would I ruin a fat fast by finishing it? I don't have money to go and buy a different kind at this moment.
thanks for your help.

In DANDR Atkins says that nitrites are carcinogenic. I don't believe they affect your weight loss at all, they're just unhealthy.

About the only way it effects your weight loss is with the high sodium content possibly causing you to retain water. Just drink more water, maybe have some green tea, and don't worry.

The only kind of nitrate free bacon I can find is laoded with sugars. In fact the only most bacons have sugars. I either get extra lean turkey bacon or low sodium store brand as these are the only sugar free ones. It's kind of a choose your poison thing, and I choose nitrates over sugar right now. (not ot mention the huge cost of nitrate free meats)

I have wondered the same thing. But no that I can't afford to buy most of the food at the health food stores. I choose to eat my low sodium bacon just not every day.

Get some ground pork, add your own seasonings and make your own "sausage." It's less expensive and healthier for you!

What do you mean by local butcher? do you have a butcher shop with a butcher or are you talking about the butcher in the meat dept of the supermarket? All we have where I live are supermarkets - no such thing as a real butcher shop anymore

Nitrates and nitrites are preservatives found in almost everything these days. Most meats if you read the fine print have been injected with a salt solution for preserving. So even those raw fresh meats you buy at the super market can have hidden items like salt and colorings :P

What ticks me off is the fact they dump sugar in everything. It's not a preservative, but the amarican consumer wants sweet tastes. We also know about sugar addiction. Just think, a few years ago they could of been putting nicotene in there if they thought it would make us buy more They did use cocaine I supose....
