Question HUNGER as punishment??

Just curious if anyone else has had the following experience... I fell off the wagon, in more ways than one, by drinking "several" micro-brewed and probably very high carb beers last Thursday. I noticed that the next day, I was OUT OUT OUT of ketosis, (and still not back in as of Sunday) and my hunger/cravings for carbs had really hit with a vengeance. I was curious if others found that cheating in this manner (this week was my first "screw-up" in 7 weeks) caused you to really have to deal with a lot more hunger and cravings for a few days after?
I am past that hunger thing now, but I also wondered if I am back at square one and how long will it take to get back into ketosis???
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Kalli

I had a bad 1/2 day last Monday, and it was Friday before I was back in ketosis.

Kalli...

Yes, that's very typical of what happens when you are following low carb and then give your body a big carb jolt. It causes an insulin response which can make your blood sugars unstable again and lead to the increased hunger and cravings until your body can get rid of the excess glucose and stabilize again.
Every time I have done what you did I've had the same response; increased cravings and hunger for 3-5 days afterwards (which is about how long it will take on average to get back into ketosis again).

I agree, I've had the exact same response (many times) I find that the sooner I get back on track (as difficult as it is to kill those cravings) the better. When I've fallen I usually make a large pan of Crystal's You Won't Believe They're Low Carb" Naniamo Bars and nurse it for about a month (I still have half a pan in the frig now for those times I need something sweet) it is a totally legal desert low in carbs and far too rich to eat more than two squares which is about 6g carbs...that is the only way I get through it.
