Question Caloric Intake

HI there

I am loosely following Atkins (I did not buy the book)... my question is this: does calorie intake matter AT ALL? Is it only carbo intake that should be monitored? I think that I know the answer to this but I wanted to make sure anyway.

thanks

Nora

Hi Nora!

The answer to this is yes, and no. For most people, they have trouble getting enough calories when low carbing because ketosis has the effect of diminishing your appetite. However...Dr. Atkins does stress that eating low carb is not a free license to gorge yourself on low carb foods. As a guideline, I'd recommend shooting for 10-12x your goal weight, but never going below 1,200 calories a day. Many people find that they need to experiment a bit to find the right levels for them.
