Exclamation Gross Question

Sorry for the gross question... Since starting on induction I have been really constipated. I stopped taking my multi because of the iron content. So is it OK to take laxatives or no?

thanks

I didn't get this problem because even on induction I used Flax meal and some psyllium husk in a high protein low carb shake in the morning.
How far are you on induction ?What worked for me might not work for you .
When using psyllium start with only a teaspoon and over the weeks go to a tablespoon.Drink a glass of water afterward so that you swell the psyllium in your stomach and not in your intestines.Hope this help. I am quite leary of laxative as pills.

Dr. Atkins recommends it - he takes psyllum husks in a glass of water daily. I take two psyllum husk capsules daily or flax o meal cereal (but you aren't allowed the cereal in induction).

Plus make sure you are eating your veggies - important for weightloss and the fiber. And drink lots and lots of water it will help you greatly and PLEASE TAKE YOUR VITAMIN!

Just make sure you check the carb count on whatever fiber you choose.

I sometimes take a product that has aspartame and orange flavor. It's a store brand, called Equate, which say's it compares to "Metamucil active ingredient". It tastes kinda grainy, but I can choke it down. I've also used "dieter's tea", a herbal tea containing senna. But ooooh, can it ever cause some nasty stomach cramps. It really clears out the system, but I use it rarely.

It also helps to make sure you are getting enough fat, fiber and water. All three work together to keep things moving smoothly. Check the carb counts on any flavored psyllium products; they often contain fillers that have carbs even if they are sugar free.
