Default The Real Truth about Sunflower Seeds

Over the last few days I have been struggling with getting enough calories down. I took a trip to Trader Joe's and shopped the nuts and seeds looking for something that could bump up my calories that wouldn't become addictive (I tried nuts and failed...couldn't put them down). I thought I had found the perfect addition, dry roasted & salted sunflower seeds. The nutrition info per the label was exciting:

Serving Size 1/4 cup
Calories: 190, from Fat: 140
Total Fat: 15g
Colesterol 0 mg
Sodium 135 mg
Total Carbohydrate 1g
Dietary Fiber 1g
Sugars 0g
Protein 11g

Merrily, I purchased a few bags, portioned it out into 1/4 cup portions, brought some to work.

Munched accordingly. Something didn't seem right, so when I got home I came to our wonderful site and put the info into the hidden carb inspector, and look what turned up!

Actual Carb count 6.46 g
Difference by weight 5.46 g

I have now entered my daily food intake into fitday and I have now eaten all the carbs in my bank for two days!!!

The lesson I learned is to check the hidden carb calculator before eating, keep my receipts and return stuff to the store.

How can the label be so wrong???

Are you sure you did that right? I put in the numbers you have and got:

Calculated Information
Carbohydrates factor - 3.84063
Fat factor - 8.82671
Protein factor - 4.28361
Actual Carb count - 2.73 g
Difference by weight - 1.73 g

Could it be fitday calculated "shelled" sunflower seeds and the bag gave the information for the ones in the shells?

Default The Real Truth about PUMPKIN not SUNFLOWER SEEDS - OOPS!

Agonycat:

Could I be wrong with the info? I did get the type of seed wrong in the first place! The seed is a pumpkin seen, dry roasted and salted, not in the shell. The calorie information is based on 1/4 cup. I just re-did the calc using the hidden carb tool and got the same result.

How can the label be so off?

Now, do I go back to induction since I've blown my carb count for the day?

Just continue as you would

Induction is just that. An introduction to the diet and what you should be eating and what you should be avoiding. Since you know now what to look for, just continue on as you would a normal day.

We all have those "bad" days that we exceed our daily carb allowance. The main point is being able to mess up and get right back on the wagon without any other goofs
