Default Malitol?

Hi!
I eat the low carb chocolate sometimes. There is like less than a gram of carbs in there and they usually cure any cravings. I was looking at the sugar free russel stover candy and noticed that they have a lot of carbs in them. But then I noticed that malitol carbs were not subtracted like they are in the low carb chocolate bars in the health food store. Is malitol supposed to be subtracted or is it subtracted on the ones at the health food store b/c they 'claim' that it doesn't 'count'. So, does anyone know the effect of malitol on blood sugar/insulin levels?
Thanks!
Tori

Hi Tori,

This is one of those YMMV (your mileage may vary) things.

If you look at "The truth about low carb sweeteners info" at the right of your screen, Doreen has explained all the ins and outs for us.

Cheers.

And watch out for maltitol's other effect: it is an extreme LAXATIVE. If you eat a whole bar, be prepared to stay near the bathroom for some hours.

You have been warned.

Maltitol is evil! Not only does it act as a laxative but it behaves as a fiber and generates copious amounts of gas causing bloating, stomach discomfort, and serious embarrassment.
