Unhappy Help! sickness, diarrhea, and dehydration

Ugh! I am sick with an intestinal and stomach flu bug... and losing a *lot* of liquid. In my waking hours I am drinking as much water as I can pour down my throat, but not in the mood to eat much (plus it just goes thru me). Well, I am *still* getting the typical dehydration dry mouth and headache. My mother (an RN) wants me to start drinking gatoraid to avoid getting worse.

Soo.. what do you do when you are getting dehydrated due to sickness. Also related, what do you suggest for eating and calming my stomach/bowels.

Not that I am any medical expert or anything, however *IF* I was sick and dehydrating, last thing I would worry about is carbohydrates.

Drink the Gatorade! Since you are not eating, you are losing a lot of electrolites and other essentials. Take care of youself first, once you are feeling better then go back into a low carb way of life.

I hope you feel better soon.

Post Absolutely take care of yourself...

Many people sick in our office the past two weeks...something is going around...

...and many of them describe the same symptoms as you.

By all means take care of yourself and replenish what you're losing. You can start/resume your program when you're better.

Hope you'll be feeling better soon!

Default Jeez..

I'm sorry that you are not feeling well!!!

First and foremost is your health, I agree. BUT there may be a way to handle both! There are many great soups in the recipe section. How about rehydrating yourself with chicken soup and the like?

Feel better!

Very sorry to hear you are sick.. The first thing is to take care of yourself.... Belive it or not pedialite is great to be drinking also while you are sick... Take care of your body before worring about the carbs... after you recover from being sick you can get back on track with your eating... You need the fluids that will replace lost eltrolites and stuff.. and believe it or not the doc just recommended drinks with sugar for my son this past weekend when he was sick to give his body energy to help fight infection. It worked great along with the antibotics..

Hope you get well really sooon

Tammy
