Question ECC versus total carbs on food labels

Using the Protein Power program... Becasue fiber carbs are good for you, I am focusing on ECC, the effective card count. So, when I read a commercial food label, I might read:
Total Carbs: 11g
Fiber: 2g
Sugar: 7g

My interpretation of this is that this product has 7 grams of ECC. I do not count the fiber grams in my daily carb count.

Is this a correct interpretation? Also, where are the other 2 grams that make up the rest of the "total gram" count?

Hi Peggyjo,

this product has 9g ECC. (Total - Fiber)

the other 2 grams could be starches, they are digestible too. (there are 3 main types of carbs: cellulose, or 'fiber', sugar, and starch)

Peggy, whatch the labels. Sometimes the fibre is already subtracted. IF you subtract again, you are taking in more carbs than you think.

There's a sticky post at the top of the forum that talks about label reading.
