Default when is blood sugar low?

I am a type II diabetic and have done great lowering my blood sugars eating low carb. I am very proud of bringing down my AC1 from 11.4 to 5.8.

My daily blood sugars are now averaging 109. Last night I had a blood sugar of 84. I take Glucophage and am working on getting off it. I saw my doctor last month and forgot to ask her what would be a low blood sugar. I feel fine but my mom is stressing out. She thinks 100 is too low and I told her low was probably 70ish. Does anyone know what is lowish so I can tell her, and when I should be calling my doctor?

I am just trying to plan ahead... I am sure it will take a bit to get my sugars down to 70.... heh..

hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is usually defined as a reading below 70. Normal blood sugar range is 70-100 (my goal is to keep mine between 80 and 90).
Some people can feel like they have low blood sugar before it gets below 70, especially if they have been running much higher readings for a while and then experience a drop.
This article from WebMD may help set your mom's mind at ease that you're in no danger with a blood sugar reading of 84, so pat yourself on the back...you're doing great!

Dr Bernstein says in his book that after testing thousands of people for decades that hehas found perfectly normal non diabetic or prediabetic people's average blood sugar ls 85

When you get down below high 60's is when it is considered 'low'

I told my diabetic nurse (CDE) that normal BG range was 70-90, and she said that she didn't believe that - that normal BG for a non-diabetic was (are you sitting down?) 60-140.. I'm thinking, "yeah, perhaps it goes to 60 or up to 140 for periods of maybe 2 minutes.."

The first time I ever had my fasting blood sugar tested, I asked the nurse who gave me the results what the normal range was. She said 90 to 110. Mine was 100 so I thought that my blood sugar was perfect. Years later, I found out that she didn't have a clue.
