Default Why does everything contain sugar?

In the Atkins book he says you can have any meat. Salami, Ham etc. When I look at the ingredients they all have sugar or something similar in them. How do you count the carbs in these meats. I have really been living on bacon and eggs for breakie, a tuna salad for lunch which contains a small tin of tuna, 2 cups of lettuce and some cucumber and maybe celery, a bit of olive oil and a smidge of balsamic vinigar. Then for dinner I am having 2 or 3 chops with a flower of cauliflower, I really dont know how to go about counting the carbs. I have just thought to myself if I want this woe to last i have to vary my meals otherwise I will get even more bored than I am and give it up. I have read so many success stories to know that this works and to know that you can vary your meals I just dont know how. I want to do this forever, just properly. I also may have a celery stick with cream cheese if I am hungary.

Another question, can you eat inbetween meals or not?

Also in the book he states that you can have cheese, whatever cheese you like. Do you all count the carbs in your cheese? I have not really been counting carbs just trying to avoid them.

There is a HUGE difference between "meats" and processed meats. ie Salami, Ham, lunch type meats. When Atkin's said any meats he ment unprocessed....the kind you get from your butcher, not those little prefabed packages with "oscar" or "butterball" on them.

Unprocessed meats = does not have any additives.

On the Atkin's diet you eat when you feel the need to eat, and sometimes you end up forcing yourself to eat because you aren't hungry. Try to maintain 10 to 12 times your body wiegh in daily calorie intake and drink lots of water and take vitamins/mineral supplements.

Remember you can have fish, seafood, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, duck, vension, and the list goes on. There are so many ways to fix these without adding carbohydrates.

If you are tired of bacon try sausages for breakfast. I found several different brands that have 1 or 2 carbs per serving (3 or 4 links) that breaks up the breakfast menu. Or switch out days for fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, rasberries) with cream.

Atkin's has a limited carb counter in the back of his book, and there are counters listed on this web site as well. Use those as a guide.

Have a look at what others eat in the active Journals as well as the Study Journal. You will see there is a wide range of things to eat both simple and complex. Have you looked at the Low Carb Recipes in the orange bar at the top of the page?

Also in the orange bar under Low Carb Tools is the carbohydrate counter for loads of food items and fitday.com is an easy way of counting your daily carb intake as well as fat, protein, vitamins and minerals. Corrinne T. Netzer;'s cComplete book of food counts is also a great, portable resource.

I am comfortable saying that most people do count the carbs in dairy products if they realize they are there.

A suggestion would be to make a list of all the low carb foods you like with the portion size and find out what the carb counts are. Post a list on your fridge and carry one with you. I did this when I first started and it worked relly well for me.

You can eat whenever you want, and whatever you want that follows sound lowcarb guidelines. I eat 4-6 times a day depending on my degree of hunger. It is a bad "dieting" habit to deny yourself food. Early on in the book, Dr. A states that this is a qualitative, not quantitative diet.

On a personal note, I don't eat processed meats because of the carbs and the ususal long list of scary ingredients that they contain!

Default Thanks for the info but...

Our sausages and your sausages must be two different things. Our sausages have cereal and sugar in them so I wouldnt have them.

I didnt realise he meant no processed meats. There you go, you learn a new thing every day.

By the way what are links?
