Question Quorn??

Hi
Can anyone tell me if vegetarians are allowed to eat Quorn. I'm not sure if this is the same name as the US use but my mum is a vegetarian and she doesn't like tofu.

Oh I miss Quorn, I moved to Canada in the summer, and even though i am a meat eater, i lived with a vegetarian at uni and we often cooked Quorn, but they don't sell it here.

Not sure about your question though - just wanted to ramble about the better food back home

It depends. Is your mum a strict vegan or does she use eggs and/or milk?

Quorn itself is from a fungi - so it is essentially the same kind of food source as mushrooms. No problems for vegans (persons who eat no animal products at all) there. However, the various Quorn products that are sold may use other ingredients that a vegan might not like - for example, you might see egg whites or whey protein in the ingredient list along with Quorn. But a lacto-ovo vegetarian (allows milk & eggs) would not object to these 2 additions.
So you really have to check the labels - but if everything else on the label is OK, Quorn itself would certainly be OK.

Quorn is really fantastic and super low carb!!! I love it too (being a low carb vegetarin) it is really good for a change of pace from those soy meats!

All the quorn I have ever seen is low carb so I don't see why yours wouldn't be but it is always good to check!

What do you do with it by the way? Always looking for new ideas!
