Default Can you believe it? I'm drinking a regular Coke today.

So here's the story---last night some nasty stomach bug or food poisoning hit me hard, along with lots of throwing up (sorry, don't mean to offend, but moms talk about this stuff!). Still feel crummy, weak and nauseous today, tried sipping a bit of water. Harkening back to my chemo days, I know that Coke and the syrup in it does a wonderful job of helping with heaving stomachs. So here it is---for the past six hours I've slowly been sipping at one can of Coke. Maybe I'll be able to move onto chicken broth tonight and get back into ketosis quickly with no harm done.

Feel better soon. Keep on sipping that coke, put on some fuzzy socks, get under a warm blanket, and veg on the couch.

Hugs.

Honestly, do what works for you, but I feel that Ginger ale really works best when nauseated. Small sips and have it very cold.

Ooh....I feel your pain. I got a horrendous case of food poisoning last week. (The preservatitve/nitrate free bacon doesn't last more than a day or two in the fridge!!) I know that once you have had a marathon session of puking and diarrhea, your potassium levels and electrolytes are really depleted and you need to get them back up of the puking/diarrhea will continue. I got some Gatorade, sprite, and chicken noodle soup and DID NOT CARE about the carbs, only about feeling better. I couldn't even keep water down, and the thought of my regular low-carb foods sent me into dry heaves...ugh..
Don't worry about the carbs....just get yourself better. Ginger Ale is really higly recommended for the nausea/heaving stomach.

Ginger alone (without the ale) is great for nausea. I take powdered ginger in capsules for when I have to fly, I used to get airsick but this takes care of it.

Couldn't you drink diet coke or diet gingerale instead?

Peppermint tea is great on upset stomachs. Last time I had stomach flu I got better several days before my bf at the time cause he refused to drink it.

We keep Cola Syrup around for fighting nausea. It works great. Just a tiny amount over crushed ice. I've only had to do it once since going LC (used to need it a lot!). It didn't make any difference in weight loss. With the syrup, you don't get anything other than what helps your tummy -- not sure what all is in Coke.

This reminds me of a funny story....when my MIL was goign through chemo about 10 years ago for cancer and having terrible nausea and loss of appetite, she asked my husband if he could get her some medicinal marijuana. My husband, a total hippie/pot smoker at the time, acted like it would be really hard to get her some and then he did get her some and it worked like a charm on the nausea, and I just think it's a cute story.

I am pretty sure diet coke and/or diet ginger ale would do the same thing. I think its the cola/ginger in it and not the added sugar that helps, and in fact at times the sugar can make things worse.

You might want to try cola syrup or regular ginger instead of drinking that stuff.

Diet gingerale and diet Sprite were part of my recovery as well when I needed more flavor than water.

When you're ill, you need to do whatever works for you. No one ever got fat off a very occassional coke or crackers. It is the day after day thing that gets us! I hope you sickies feel better - that is really tough to feel that sick! Orchid
