Question Pork Sausage Dilemma??

Hi all, Having just started Atkins carb diet?, Am now into 4 days. OK so far with no problems so far. I was reading the carb counter booklet (Atkins) and see it lists Pork sausages as 1.0 carbs each. Having looked around the local supermarket for commercial make sausages found some Pork Sausages that show as 12.8 gms per 100gms. This pack weighed 454gms with 8 sausages. So therefore each sausage is approximately 6.5gms??. QUESTION......Why the big difference or have I been reading the labels wrong?.

Thanks in advance Steve.

Some sausages have grain fillers to hold them together and they also have added sugars; they will have a lot of carbs. Some sausages are primarily meat, fat and spices; they will have very few carbs. The only sausage I've found so far that has no added sugars is Bob Evans original flavor in the 1 pound roll. Tennessee Pride and Jimmie Dean have about 1 carb per serving, so they are good choices, too. None of those three have the starchy fillers. Watch out for the really cheap brands though, they usually have the starchy fillers and lots of carbs.

Shortstuff gives a great explanation. Just remember - when in doubt, go by what the food label says. The carb counters are good for generalities but individual products can vary widely. Orchid

Wink pork sausages vs Atkins

Hi
Good to see another Uk "buddy" on-line. It also says in the Atkins book too that a Breakfast Sausage is 0.5 n/carbs. Chipolatas are the ones I used, to be on the side of caution but if you know of any normal size bangers let me know. I have been eating Tesco's until I discovered they had wheat flour in them. So I'm still looking.
Good luck & keep in touch

Wench
