Unhappy Advantage Bars Etc.

LATELY I HAVE NOTICED THIS COUNTING OF NET CARBS THING, ie. TOTAL CARBS 15G, DIETARY FIBER 10G, GLYCERIN?!? (NOT EVEN LISTED IN NUTRITIONAL FACTS) 3G, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO EQUAL 2G NET CARBS. I HAVE BEEN ON INDUC SINCE I STARTED IN SEPTEMBER 03, DIDNT MAKE IT THROUGH CHRISTMAS BUT GOT RIGHT BACK ON THE HORSE FOR THE NEW YEAR! BUT IS IT TRUE THAT ON THE INDUC I AM NOT ALLOWED TO COUNT NET CARBS?!?
If I'm not losing weight, why would I want to stay on the induc...?

PLEEEEEEEEASE HELP!!!!!

i am so confused

On Atkins you count net carbs. You can deduct fiber, glycerine and sugar alcohols from the total carb count thus getting your "net carbs." A lot of people will tell you to avoid the bars during Induction. I personally didn't use them. They cause some people to stall in their weight loss and don't seem to affect others. This is a case of YMMV (your mileage may vary.) If you aren't losing why don't you post a sample days menu and let us look at it. Maybe we can offer some advice. Is your fat high enough? Is your calories high enough? Are you drinking your water? There are a lot of things that factor in. Give us more info and we will do our best to offer some advice.

The reason you don't count the fiber and sugar alcohols is that they are not suppose to have an effect on your blood sugar. The catch being that they DO bother some people. Like I said, YMMV.

Hi Seesaw,

As Lori says, sugar alcohols can affect people differently. Confusing, isn't it?!
If you want more information on sugar alcohols, go to Low Carb Tips on the orange bar at the top of the screen. You'll find lots more useful info there, too.

I had wondered in the past about the "glycerin" listed on the bars too. I pretty much gave them up a while ago after having everyone tell me not to eat them, but I still wonder where the glycerin count is on the bars nut. info

I've done Induction twice without any bars and once with bars. I lost 10 lbs each time without and gained 2 lbs when I had the bars. That's how they affect me...Now, emergency only!!!
