Lower Carb bread coming to the UK!
Saw an article in the Daily Mail today that may interest some of you....
"A Low - Carb Loaf to tempt Atkins Fans
With 3 million followers in the Uk alone, the low carb Atkins Diet has taken its toll on the bread industry. Now bakeries have decided to fight back by introducing a new style of loaf. The Sara lee Bakery Group is to start selling low-carb white & brown breads in an attempt to restore the fortunes of the industry. Sara Lee's Bread will contain only 9 grams of carbs per slice compared with 15 grams for traditional white and 13 grams for brown. They are made with the same ingredients as normal bread but with less sugar. Sara Lee are planning an £8.4 million ad campaign to promote the new brand, which it claims has all the tastee of normal bread.
Atkins Nutritionals, a US based firm, is planning a UK launch of a range of low carb foods, including bread later this year"
Personally I still think 9 grams per slice is still quite high, and wont bother with it cos I dont miss bread at all now, but its nice to see the food industry are finally taking note, and seem to be realising that the Atkins WOL is here to stay !!!
