Question Counting carb confusion

OK... my Dad told me that you can subtract grams of fiber and/or artificial sweetner from the total carbs and then that number is the digestable carbs. Is that true? He is doing a LC diet, not sure which one, but not Atkins. So, I went and bought a bag of sugar free "Turtles". The total carbs were 17g, the sugar alcohol are 15g. So does that really mean that I am only digesting 2g of carbs?
Dad also said if I get those, only eat 1 a day. They make you poop... alot!

Your father is correct about the sugar alcohols: they are powerful laxatives. People who ate more than "1 serving size" have been known to need to stay withing 10 feet of a bathroom on the following day.

The 17 - 15 = 2 Effective Carb Count grams is correct BUT many people's weight loss comes to a complete halt until the get rid of the sugar alcohols found in ALL LC candies and bars. You'll just have to wait and see if you lose or stall.
