Default Weekend BFL Check-in 11/07/03

Hi everyone,
Another week has slipped by us. Who notices a week go by when you are so busy busting your butt to get in shape? Was it a good BFL week for you? Did you feel the fat melting off?
___________________________
Well, I had a pretty good week. I had excellent workouts this week. Today should have been UBW, but it's my honey's birthday, so I came straight home from work to go out tonight. I'll get in the UBW tomorrow. I've been using my stationary bike all week for cardio and it's tough. I still haven’t figured out the intensities yet and end up quitting after only 3 cycles because I just can't go any further. Oh well, I'll get it right this week.

My wife has become my inspiration. About two weeks ago she was walking the dogs and one of them took off after another dog and the leash wrapped around one of her fingers and broke her finger. Then last week when she was running, her ankle twisted and she went flying down on the pavement. Her knee and shoulder both hurt from it (not to mention how her broken finger felt at the time). Through all this she has not missed a workout or a cardio day. Even on the day she fell, she got up and finished her twenty minutes. THAT'S DEDICATION.

Hope you all had a good one!
Arnie

Hi Arnie:

It's so touching to "hear" you speak about your wife like that. I'm sure she feels like a very lucky woman.

I've just completed 9 weeks of BFL without a missed workout. This was an interesting week. I decided to experiment with lowering my carbs to about 50 ECCs due to lactic acid hampering my workouts. I was doing a moderate carb program more along BFL by-the-book, with my main sources of carbs from fruit and vegetables. I've now found that the lactic acid is better controlled, but I definately feel weaker (no surprise, I guess). My workouts were pretty poopy. I started supplementing with potassium again so I'll see if it helps the weakness. If not, I'll have to do some more tweaking in the carb category, maybe focus on increasing carbs pre and post workout. I've noticed some aches and pains since reducing my carbs/eliminating my controlled insulin spike. Maybe I didn't give the controlled insulin spike enough credit. It's something I may need to reintroduce.

LOL Arnie, I'm still waiting for the fat to melt off!

Arnie, I'm glad you had a good week. And I agree with Wanda, it's sweet to read about your wife.

Wanda, I'm with you--not sure that I have the carbs straight yet. Had an only so-so week. My UBW didn't go too well--I definitely worked to failure, but I didn't seem to have the energy that I'd had in my first two weeks. My LBW was not great, either, since I "peaked" too early and couldn't do the last set of exercises. And I tried abs boot camp, but must have been doing something wrong, since I didn't ache very much afterwards. Today I'm having a session with the trainer, so I feel as if she'll push me back on track.

The HIIT is still a killer, so I've toned it down a tad. Also have resumed just plain walking, which is a relief (that's in addition to, not instead of, the HIIT).

The main issue still seems to be the food. I do better if I eat yucky carbs before my weight session. But then I'm hungry for the rest of the day. This morning I ate a strict induction breakfast, and for once I'm NOT hungry and feel fine. But I guess I need to do some carbs now before my session. This is confusing!

Hi everyone,

Wow, Arnie I will think of your wife when I'm feeling lazy. Along w/our very own Wanda who has yet to miss a single workout and our Nitrovixen who drags her behind out of bed at 2:15 in the morning (!!!!!) to hit the gym before work. All very inspirational.

I'm feeling very proud of myself this week. I've made it in 5 days so far and will go today for my LB workout. I have had a sore throat and head cold since Wednesday morning, but I reminded myself how I'd promised myself I'd make it in 6 days and I really wanted to hit that goal. Working out actually has made me feel better and clear my head.

I also changed up my lifting regimen this week as it had been 6 weeks. I'm really sore again so I know I succeeded in shocking my body. I enjoyed doing a new routine and I can't wait to see if it speeds up results.

Arnie, how's the yoga going?

Good job everyone! I hope you all have a splendid weekend.

I agree, this is a pretty amazing group of people here.

I wasn't able to make it to a class last week, but I still like it and plan to continue. There is a Yoga TV show that airs at 6:00 a.m. that I've started to tape. So I can watch and do it at home when I can't make it to a class.

I really enjoy going to my yoga classes (though I haven't been in ages!) but I bought a couple tapes that I used to do in the morning and I really like them. It's still nice to go to class b/c the routine changes and the room is heated (ashtanga is about 88 degrees...not miserable like bikram which is upto 110). But the tapes are great for when you can't make it. I usually just do a variety of yoga moves after I work out now. Gotta start w/the tapes again now that it's not so hot in my house. Keep up the good work!
