I'd say after 32 days, go for it. In moderation, a li'l sauce is okay for most people.

You are correct about the vodka, same for gin, rum, whiskey and other distilled spirits. Mix it with a low carb mixer, and you're good to go. It can put you temporarily out of ketosis, but not the way junk food would - your body can't store the alcohol the way it can store glucose. You should be "back in the pink" the next day.

The usual disclaimers: (a) almost guaranteed, your tolerance has gone down! Be careful. (b) Drink LOTS of water. It dehydrates you. (c) It can disrupt your blood sugar levels the next day, so be sure to keep an extra tight rein on the carbs.

Sure you can drink, as long as you don't go crazy and as long as you factor the carbs into your daily count, as well as the calories if you are tracking calories. I have wine almost every night with dinner (and sometimes after dinner too), and so far I've lost around 35 pounds. One thing to be aware of is that if you drink any alcohol, fat-burning will almost cease in your body until your liver has metabolized the entire amount of alcohol. This is not dangerous--again, as long as you don't go crazy--but it will slow your weight loss if you drink regularly. I have been willing to trade a somewhat slower loss for the pleasure of not having to quit drinking! But YMMV, as with everything concerning diet.

Vodka mixes nicely with just about anything: I've mixed it with diet root beer, diet cream soda, and even sugar-free blue kool-aid.

There's a sugar-free Bailey's recipe here, and Kahlua here. They might be nice for the holidays.

All good advice for you, pammiejoe6...

...and you might even find that you don't enjoy the cocktails as much as you did before. I know I don't. And if that happens, you'll be craving it a lot less.

My favorite, is Gin or manderine orange vodka mixed with diet grapefruit pop. Just be careful of the flavoured vodka's as Some have sugar, I don't beleive Absolute mandarine does.

Cheers Kathy

I'm so pleased to hear all of you who are successfully losing and still enjoying the spirits. I love a glass of wine in the evening......and have imbibed a couple times in weeks 3 & 4 but my weight loss completely stopped. If I'm reading you right, it's not necessarily the wine! Good news for me.
