Question question to the rxperts about OWL

Calling all experts!
As of tonight I will have officially completed my two weeks of induction (I do have a two year old neices bday party tonight but I'm determied to keep up all my good wrok and effort)
From tomorrow I want to start gong up the carb ladder - I need your help!
It says in the book that you add 5g per week and lists food, starts with veges and then cheeses, nuts berries etc etc does that mean that i have to wait another three weeks before I add nuts or have i misunderstood, Dr A says that one of the first foods he encourages patients to have after induction are Nuts, It also says that if you intoduce a new food you should have it about three times a week befote going on to everyday! If I am wrong then does that mean can have 25g carb everyday mostly from veg but if by Frday i want something else I can add, chesse, nuts/berries as long as I stay in 25g this week?
Please help me understand?
Oh yes I'm going to wigh myself tomorrow - fingers crossed!

Yes I'd advise to follow his chapter in the book, If you really must add the nuts, be cautious of the amounts. As well you can choose to stay on induction a bit longer.

Keep eating exactly as you have been eating, but add one 5-carb item from the list per day. Maybe week 1 you want to add almonds on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and strawberries on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Or whatever. Or you can choose to just eat a few more of the veggies you've already been eating. If you find you stall, eliminate all of the new items you've added except for one. Do this week by week until you discover the culprit. Make sense?

I added a lot of veggies right after induction, I didnt start adding nuts until recently. It is a good idea to only add one thing at a time, I found that I can eat peanuts and walnuts and almonds with no ill effect, but cashews I cant do. i dont know though, it may have to do with portion control too... I don't gain when I eat them, but dont loose, they may be a food I can have later when I am in the life time maintanence phase ... If you only add one new food, you will know which is the culprit right away! also, have you seen the food ladder? try them that way!

For me, I just counted carbs, it didn't matter if it came from nuts or berries. Sometimes it came from nuts and berries. Macadamia nuts are quite low in carbs and if I had it all to do over again, I would start adding them.

Good Luck,

Congrats on finishing your 2 weeks! I just finished mine also! =) I think the reason the book suggests you advance slowly upon the higher carb limit and the types of foods is so that you can identify problems easier. If you were to add several new foods and stopped loosing, you wouldn't know which one was causing it. So, by adding 1 at a time you can identify if you have a problem with a particular food. Also, the 5 carbs a week add also helps you identify your critical carb level for loosing.

Good luck to you! =)

Moonshea =)
