Default Diabetic Carb Exchange on Nutrition Labels

Hello,

I have been noticing on a lot of the sugar free, low carb products in the super market now that have a section on the Nutrition label that is entitled "Diabetic Exchange". It will list the carbs that are in the product but then goes further and says the Diabetic Exchange is 2 carbs. Much like what Atkins does on their products as Net Carbs.

Does anyone know any details about this section on the nutrition label and if Atkins WOL'rs can go by this as our Net Carbs?

Best Wishes,
Tammy Healey

I would look at the ingredients. If they list as sweetners Maltitol or Lactitol, then I would be more apt to believe the carb exchange number. See if they list sugar alcohols, in other words. For some people you can subtract sugar alcohols like you can fiber.

Hi Tammy....

You might want to run the numbers through the "Hidden Carbs Inspector" which you will find on the right hand side of the forum page. Just click on it and enter the numbers and you will find out which numbers to use.

Hope this helps.
