My mom has one and she puts it in her freezer, but make sure that it is sitting flat on its base. She's had times where it was tipped in the freezer and the gel inside went with gravity and froze at the angle. Then when she went to make her ice cream, not all sides of the Donvier had frozen gel so it didn't work properly.
Anyway, put the whole thing in the freezer including the lid and blade. When ready to make your ice cream, take it out of the freezer. Hold the blade in place and poor the mixture into the container (this keeps the mixture from freezing to the bottom where the blade is supposed to go). Put on the lid and handle and give it a few turns. Wait about 10 mins. and turn again. Repeat until the mixture is frozen. If you turn too often, then the mixture doesn't get a chance to freeze. If you don't turn often enough, then it's difficult to scrape the sides and the remaining mixture doesn't get a chance to freeze.
I hope all this made sense. Course yours is probably a newer model than my mom's (she bought it in the late 80's) and it may be a little different.
Good luck and enjoy!
Oh, what recipe are you using? I'd love to find a good one.
