Unhappy South Beach COnfusion

It's bad enough that when you are on a program everyone who isn't has something to say to you. I havebeen on Atkins for a couple of months; had great resultsin the beginning, not much now. A co worker is doing South Beach and put the book on my desk. I am thoroughly confused. I have always believed in gylcemic index, and I have pre diabetes, so I have to watch sugar anyway. But I've also been told the extra fat keeps me satisfied and away from sugar. Should I try South Beach? I have a history of heart problems in my fanily and WANT SO MUCH to lose the extra 40 lbs.... and seem to not be able to. No matter what. Any thoughts?

South Beach is so new that there are no studies I know of (of that particular diet).

Atkins has several studies vindicating it.

The induction phase of each diet is quite similar.

I recently converted a couple of friends who had stalled on SB to Atkins. They are skeptical yet impressed with the data I've shown them.

You are in a good place - you've got two good choices.

Go with what works for you, but don't be afraid to change your mind if it stops working. A bit of experimentation is the only way to find out what works for YOU. Remember, it is NOT a race, and all of us go through setbacks.

Amazingly, it is all good.

If atkins is working for you, go with that. I for one switched as I never felt that satisfied with the fat, and also it made me feel ill. I have been better on SBD, so I think it work better for me, but the whole low carb thing is a very personal thing, things that work for some dont work for all!

You are doing great! If you need to try something to change, SBD my work. I find it nearly impossible to follow it and eat too much. SBD (IMHO) has you eat lower calorie foods (low fat cheese, milk etc, has a lot less calories than regular cheese or cream!) so I think that is a main difference. On Atkins, I could eat 1600 cals a day and have nothing to show for it, but on SBD, I have a lot more to show for it. I have not been eating more than 30 g of carbs or so, but I don't really need to count them anymore. I am much happier on SBD, it is working so far!

This is all just me though! Figure out your thing and go with it!!!

Thanks for thwe input you guys. I guess I've been at this game so long that I just want something to work. In the past, things HAVE worked, but I'm older now, and at risk now, and sick of it all.... so...that's why I'm impatient. I appreciate the input.
