Subway jumps on Atkins bandwagon with new salads

link to article

The no-carbohydrates Atkins diet has become so popular that Phoenix-area Subway restaurants Monday introduced new salads to their menus.

Chicken Spinach, All-American Club, Fiesta and Southwest Veggie can all be made to conform to the no-carbs diet plan and all come with "Atkins friendly" dressings.

The restaurant chain believes this will be a successful marketing plan, since its research indicates that more than one-third of all Americans claim to currently be on a diet or healthy-eating regimen.

The new salads run about $5.

I just saw a commercial for carb conscious wraps at Subway. I missed the whole commercial and just caught the end.

Checked their website: no low-carb items or wraps in their menu, nothing in their press releases yet.

They did say they've just opened their 20,000th store - up 1000 stores from July.

About time!

Though, I have been making my own low carb salads at Subway for quite a while now. My favorite is chicken and bacon with cheese and salad things and oil, vinegar and the Chipotle sauce. (I used to use the Southwest sauce, same thing in my mind--low carb spicyness!)

Take that low fat Subway!

Now, if they would only get some lettuce besides iceburg.

I just went to Subway. I couldn't wait. They have two low carb wraps -chicken bacon ranch and turkey .that and the salads was all they had. The tortilla is so good and 5 carbs. I had the chicken and it was delicious. It cost around $4.59. My dh says he will get one next time it looked so good. He's not low carbing. I asked the girl how long they had the low carb wraps and she said 2 weeks. You think they would advertise a little more. She didnt know what brand tortillas they were and she said I was the 2nd person today to ask.
