Default Stupid people...

...drive me insane. I'm sure this is a story everyone can repeat, but here's mine. Let me paint the scene.

Today at work, a colleague visibly noticed how much weight I'd lost in the past 3 months of following the Atkins plan (38 pounds to date). She asks how I'm doing....

Her: "How have you managed to lose your weight?"
Me: "I'm following the Atkins nutritional plan"
Her: "Oh, you know you'll gain all that weight back, don't you?"

Me: "No, I wasn't aware of that."

Her: "Yeah, I was doing Atkins and dropped about 20 pounds in the first month."
Me: "Wow, that's great."
Her: "Well, I went off the plan and gained all that weight back, plus a few more pounds."

<I'm thinking of course you gained it all back when you went back to eating the old way you freaking idiot.>

Me: "I know everyone has varying degrees of success with the plan. I feel it's worked well for me."
Her: "Even the receptionist tried the Atkins plan and it didn't work for her."
Me: "Oh really?"
Her: "Yeah, she tried really hard but it just didn't take. However, I don't believe she followed it to the letter."
Me: "Oh yeah?"

Her: "Yeah, I remember when she started it she was still having those great big ice-cream sandwiches with her pasta at lunch."

Stupid people drive me insane.

LOL that is just so funny... and you're right sometimes I don't think some people even think about what comes out of their mouths.

I was at the store the other day and a kid there told me...
"Yeah everyone in town's on the Atkins diet, but as soon as they start eating pasta and the stuff they used to eat they gain it all back."

Well duh....just makes you wanna scratch your head and say "Here's your sign".

That really is so funny. I'm lucky I havn't ran into anyone yet who had anything negitive to say about this diet.
Hmmm I only lost 1 pound this last week. I wonder if it could be those ice-cream sandwiches I've been eatting with my pasta?

Unbelievable~! Of course you will gain the weight back if you go back to the way you were eating before! I know I would also gain it back eating all that pasta, rice and crap I was consuming before! Still people see Atkins or any LC plan as a "quick diet" and not a life-time commitment. That is where the problems arise. I tell people that this is FOR LIFE...thus I never plan on gaining the weight back. They quickly shut up.

Stupid!!! Stupid!!! Stupid!!! How can one think that you could just go back to eating the fooda that got you there in the first place?! Of course it wouldn't work. I can't stand when people thunk this is a quick fix & the weight can't possibly ever return no matter what they eat!

I have an update to this funny little story.

I needed to get some things printed for my kids, and needed to bribe the team here at work that could do that for me. The aforementioned person in my story works on this team, but I was trying to persuade another person on the same team to print a few things for me.

I asked her what I could get the team as a "gift".
Her reply: "We LOVE Krispy Kreme donuts."
There are three people on the team. I bought three dozen KK donuts.

They ate all of them.

They ate a DOZEN donuts? EACH????

gee... i wonder why she didn't have any success with Atkins??

even before I read DANDR and became an Atkins-ite, I still knew that white flour, sugar and low-fat foods were bad for me.

You know that is as intelligent as saying "I followed a plan that allowed me to break my heroin addiction, but when I stopped the plan and started shooting up again, I got re-addicted. Therefore you will fail too so why bother."

In all seriousness--what are these people thinking? Probably not thinking at all!!! Most Americans have NO IDEA what or how much food is going into their bodies. We are saturated with junk/bad foods and the industries which support them (food manufacturing, grocery stores, fast food chains, etc, etc, advertising). Denial is also a favorite occupation, and should perhaps be a team sport--my DH could serve as a captain, he's a real champ!!

And, in all fairness, I tho't it was just another diet too. When I first checked it out on the Atkins website, I happened to notice, just before I logged off, that this was supposed to be a WOL, that if you go back, you will gain back...

But, since nothing else was working for me, I decided to try it--the worst thing that could happen is that it wouldn't work--nothing ventured, nothing gained (oops, not literally). So, I tried it---I LIKE it---and it WORKS!

Patience, everyone... someday, I truly hope that people do catch on. It hasn't helped that, all these years, the cardiac establishment and lots of other doctors of all kinds have promoted the low-fat, low-cal WOL!! I have a good friend who simply won't even try l/c b/c her doctors have indoctrinated her so thoroughly for so many years, and they couldn't possibly be wrong, could they! In the meantime, she just keeps on gaining and gaining.

It was a big revelation to me that I could be addicted to certain foods, but I surely was--so hey, hang in there, you-all. We shall overcome!!!
