Default Hydrogenated ingred.

Question, I thought I was doing ok indulging in a Carbolite Candy bar 0 net carbs. Which I don't eat often, maybe one every two weeks. I'm so not used to anything sweet it was hard to eat the last bite.

But I was reading the ingredients and it has hydrogenated Starch hydrolysate and Partially hydrogenated soybean oil.

Anything that has hydrogenated is suppose to be bad for you right?
What's the deal with these.

Good news is Atkins bars have only non - hydrogenated ingredients.

Hydrogenated...Oil = Trans-Fat
Hydrogenated (Sugar/Starch) = Sugar Alcohol

The HSH is fine in moderation. The Hydrogenated Soybean Oil is not. What really stinks is that McCormick (?) uses Hydrogenated oils in some of their steak seasonings. So, I have to pay carefull attention to the labels when I buy seasonings/spices.

Why is it bad for you? What will it do? I see everyone saying they are bad...just wondering. Thanks

Trans-fats are a big issue. Now they're getting attention and labeling laws are being put into place for them.

The way I understand it, they clog up your arteries in a major way. They lower good HDL cholesterol and are linked to heart disease and cancer. Bad news.

The GOOD news is: they are mostly found in foods you, as a low carber, generally avoid anyway. Margerine, packaged meals, fast food, etc.

Places to look for it to avoid: peanutbutter (buy natural), salad dressing, any sort of junk food.
