Default Notification emails--what makes them change?

Sometimes the notification emails just have a link to the site / thread, and sometimes they contain the text of the post that was just added. What makes them change?

thx

They used to show text, but I changed that

It turned out to be confusing for many members, and I got too many emails with members replying to that email thinking the text was mine, or that I would post it for them , and it just takes too much of my time to let them know it didn't work, and what they need to do... So with no text, I get less emails

Yes, I also got a couple of messages from folks who found it confusing because they had selected to receive a single daily digest of notices, and were upset by the long messages and uncertain how to reply to each one.

I think just having a link so that the member can read the message on the forum is a lot easier, especially if they wish to post a reply.

Default Except when there's no link

between your email and the web, which there isn't when I'm working at home (for various technical reasons that aren't your problem).

PITT.

Oh well.

Hmmm .. yes, I could see that would be a bummer. Nonetheless, you still wouldn't be able to reply to the message if you wanted to.

I wonder if setting your profile option to receive the notification email as a single daily (or weekly for that matter) digest would be better. That way, instead of getting a dozen or dozens of individual emails, you'd just get one, which you could go through at your leisure when you had the time and able to connect to the net to check it out?

Just a thought

OK, on the main control panel page, you'll see a tab on the menu bar for subscriptions .. it's at the far right. That will take you to the main Subscriptions page where you can manage all your subscribed threads. Beside each thread, you'lll see a drop-down menu box where you can change how you receive the email .. or even to receive no email, you can just check your threads from the control panel when you logon to the forum. Place a check in the box (or check the box at the very top to select all threads, then hit Update Subscription at the bottom.

Whenever you start a new thread, or post a reply in a thread, you can also select how you wish to be notified from a Thread Subscription menu right below where you type the message (this option isn't available for Quick Reply)

hth,
