Post Put on 2 kg. Good News??

I've been having a lot of trouble with the scales that live in the bathroom where I live. Meadow came to my journal and suggested that I use the ones in the gym. Brilliant idea, I thought. Why didn't I think of that. This morning (Tues 11th June) was exactly 2 weeks since I was first assessed at gym. So off I go wearing exactly the same clothes and shoes, and get on their scales. AND I'VE PUT ON 2KG. I mean two weeks of getting up at 5.30am and driving to gym to do 40min workout and I put on 2kg. (Thats about 4 1/2 pd) I know its probably muscle, but the plan wasn't to replace 100+lb of excess fat with 120+lb of excess muscle.
Here comes the good news:
When I arrived home, I did a measure up of all the relevant body parts and I've lost 40cm ( 15 3/4 inches ) over 1/2 of it on my waist, hips and butt.
So it appears that instead of getting lighter I'm getting squished.
.
The other really good news, is that I didn't need or want to go and have a binge to compensate. With other diets I'd have been off to the chocolate aisle, or down to Macdonalds to "fix things" at the first opportunity. Not this time though.
So I'll keep on keeping on.
Thanks for listening.

PS Had to come back to report in that I had a hunt around and found the body fat index and calculated my BF% on my original assesment (37%) and now (35%). So I'm having a quiet thrill over that. The drop, not the actual %age.

Hi Feather

From your measurements it certainly looks as if you are doing well at the gym - that's terrific news.

When I started at the gym I put on 3 pounds the first week and was a bit annoyed. I think that not only do you exchange fat for muscle, but it also alters your water balance. It then took me the next 3 weeks to get rid of those extra pounds, but from then on it was onwards and downwards.

Hello,

The gain is water. I always go up after a particularly hard workout where my muscles are left feeling sore. And I read that the body naturally retains water to help with muscle repair, so dont feel bad, your doing great.

Feather,

Don't give up the iron for a few extra kilo's!!! Please! Those muscles are going to be your ticket to less kilo's in the long haul. Also I learned a little tidbit from my chiropractor yesterday... Do you know how long it takes for muscle to atrophy (start losing strength)? He said that it starts after 3 days. Geez, I thought it would take longer. That is why it is important to keep the workouts regular and consistent.

Way to go on losing the cm's/inches! You go girl! The tape is a powerful tool!

Here to getting "squooshed"!

Be blessed,
Tanya

Great job feather!

I bet your clothes fit ALOT better with almost 16 less inches than they do with losing just the 2 KG. Not to mention how strong you're getting!! Maybe we'll get strong enough to finally pitch those GOSH DURN scales out the window!!!
