Default Why does Splenda fizz?

Sounds a silly question.

My daughter made me a cup of tea the other day and used a packet of Splenda in my cup of rosy lee.

She delivered it with a reproof..."Dad, anything that fizzes when I put it in your cup can't be good for you"

Does anyone know why it does this?

I hope it is not bicarb. urghhhh!

Default You could email them and ask them..

Although, I suspect it's because the fillers are "plumped up" in order to "measure like sugar", even the packets have fillers and that these "collapse" when fluid is added.

Cokes fizz.

Teresa is correct .. it's the maltodextrin filler "deflating".

I experimented with some Splenda in a glass of room temperature water ... it fizzed. To another glass of water, I added some cylamate sweetener that has maltodextrin as the filler ... it fizzed. To a third glass of water, I added some cyclamate sweetener that has dextrose as the filler ... it did NOT fizz.

There's no bicarb in there
