Question Anybody w/ IBS on this plan?

My boyfriend and I have plans to start the diet on the first-- he has IBS and I noticed some links for a similar but stricter diet specifically for IBS on this site. We are both carbo addicts so this will be a HUGE change for us! I have 2 questions:Is it possible to control IBS symptoms without cutting out dairy completely? That seems like the only indulgence on this plan and if I have cheese and he doesn't--!Also- since we are looking at this as a lifestyle change rather then a diet-- what is the lesser of the 2 evils- hard liquor or a glass of wine? I know I will still drink occasionally, so I might as well know ahead of time.....(g)

Hi Kayte:

Dr. S. mentions that if you should drink, red wine is the healthiest option.

As for IBS, that's a hard question to answer b/c there are so many variables, known and unknown, about IBS. I think most of mine was caused by stress. HST, every incident that required a trip to the emergency was after eating high fat, high carb, low fiber, processed food. But I still think stress was the precipitating factor. I haven't had an episode of IBS since I started eating whole, natural foods.

So I'd hazard a guess and say that this program is good for IBS, especially since SPII really focuses on stress management.

Welcome and good luck.

Wanda
