Default La Tempesta Sugar-Free Cookies

I found these cookies at World Market (Cost Plus) and inadvertantly ate one thinking they were low carb. Reading the back of the package, I'm under the impression that the net carb would be 14g (for 2 cookies) and since I only ate one, it was 7 carbs, but need expert help.

BTW, they are delicious!! I had Buttery Toffee with almonds...they also have chocolate chip with almonds and pecan shortbread....possibly more. The company La Tempesta (out of San Franciso) is famous for their biscotti, but these cookies kick butt. I suppose it's possible they may give you a bigger butt to kick, unfortunately.

Experts?

Hey there.

I clicked on the Hidden Carb calculator over on the right of every screen (opened it in a new window) and plugged in your numbers as given. Note that I had to use a zero for protein, so the count given is probably close to accurate...

Those 150 calories read out to ~21g carb and if we assume maybe 3g protein not shown, 18g is correct...

Either way, it's pretty darn high. "sugarfree" is NOT carb free, especially when sugar alcohols and FLOUR is involved, and very high on the Ingredients List (always in order of largest to smallest amount).

Marginally better than a full-sugar cookie, nutritionally speaking, but not enough... in my opinion . Would set of sugars cravings in no time flat, plus provide a hefty dose of 'instantly converted to glucose' carbs in the stomach...

Danger, danger, Will Robinson!

I guess I still have to shake my head over the way we all (me included) try to get around the fact that candy and cookies and breads (and even beer!) are NOT good everyday healthy foods, no matter how much the carbs get played with.
