Default iron deficiency

I seem to recall reading thru the atkins book & coming across information re taking multivitamin but without iron-why is this?? I'm anemic & my Dr recommended an iron supplement which I take 2/day-what do I do??

hi there happymom2,

If you have low iron levels, then you should definitely follow your dr's instructions.

The concern about too much iron being stored in the body is of greatest concern to men, and post-menopausal women. Even then, there is controversy over the significance of higher stored iron levels (called ferritin).

Check out this previous discussion thread on the topic .. Why not iron?.

Thanks for the reply, Doreen! I've started taking my iron again/ Also, and to my surprise, I had lab work done & found that despite not taking them while on the diet, my hemo count did slightly increase!
