Default Large Or Medium Frame?

I Have A Question, When You Look At Weight Charts, How Do You Tell If You Are Medium Of Large Framed. Just Because I Am Tall 5 10 I Think I Am Large Frame, Is That Right? Any Input Much Appreciated.
Thank You.
Cindy

Here is a good website that has a variety of calculators to help you out.

Good luck!

Default Quick and dirty

Wrap hand around opposite wrist, using thumb and middle finger.

If they don't meet, large frame.

If they meet, medium.

If they way overlap, small.

Not 100% but it's a help.

I'm 6' tall but small framed according to this test. And I think it's probably true.

Yup, height has nothing to do with it. I'm 5'0" and a large frame.

Yep I agree, height has nothing to do with it. I am 5'8" and small framed.

You know what bugs me about these charts and guides? I don't understand how they can apply to all people. I am at 160, am 5'2" tall, and wear size 8-10. I just don't think I should be this heavy at this size. I really think there is such a thing as heavy bones. I know that sounds like a cop out, but I think I will be too small if I shoot for the high end of the range for my height, which is 134 lbs. That is 25 lbs less than I am now.

Does anybody else have an experience such as this, where your size seems disproportional to your weight?

As long as I am losing, I guess I could stick with Atkins and see how I feel if I actually reach the high end of the range for me. I am pretty happy with my size, I could be comfortable a bit smaller. As it is, my legs cross again, I can walk up hill without risking a heart attack, and my clothes fit great. I just wish the scale told me a better story.

Thanks for any wisdom anyone can provide.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth,

In my view, how you "look" should be infinitely more important than the number you see on the scale.

I totally agree. As long as I feel good and I'm comfortable in my clothes, I'm trying hard not to worry about the scale so much. I know that I'm eating healthier overall than I ever did before, and though the scale isn't moving as quickly as I would like (does it ever?) I'm getting into old jeans that I haven't been able to wear for quite a while. Also, muscle is more compact and weighs more than fat--so if we are doing weight bearing exercises, we should be increasing muscle mass. I've reduced my cardio in order to have time to have more time for free weights. I've been walking 4-5 miles a day for the past 8 months, with no visible results (except in my calves).. I recently reduced the walking to 2 1/2 - 3 miles a day, while spending more energy and time on the weights, and I'm starting to see big results.. Just thought I would share, because it seems to be working--at least for me..

Frederick and Tess,
Thank you for your wisdom. I am going to try to take your advice. First, I am going to try to learn to accept what I have to work with. And, my dear spouse is happy with it, so I should be able to as well.
As for the exercise, I have been doing primarily weight training for the past several months. I am going to add aerobics on the days in between, and see if that gets things moving any better.
I guess that if a continued downward trend is in the cards, I'll take it. But, the main thing is the way that I feel on this WOE, and intend to make it a WOL.
Thank you again for your help,
Elizabeth
