Question Salt?

I'm a salt person, i love it. I don't remember reading anything concering salt in atkins' book. Salt doesn't harm anything does it? So far so good here, just curious.

Salt itself isn't dangerous in moderation, but excessive salt intake can cause problems. Salt should be limited to 1000mg-2500mg daily, with a minimum of 500mg daily. Salt causes water retension, therefore slowing weight loss. Salt has also been linked to more serious health problems. Too much salt can cause hypertension & even elevated blood pressure. Our bodies do require some salt to function- 500mg. Just watch your salt intake and make sure it's within the healthy limits I mentioned before. Remember there are tons of spices out there, so you don't need to use only salt. Try some alternatives to add flavor, consider something like Mrs Dash or others- just check the carb count. Good luck.
God Bless,
Amy-Lynne

Try using sea salt. I stopped using regular salt years ago - it's much healthier.

I love it too! But I am worried that using it will cause more water retention than usual. It seems like it would be very easy to get dehydrated on Atkins!

You can use Potassium Chloride (KCl -- Salt Substitute) in place of Sodium Chloride (NaCl -- Table Salt)
