Default Scoop from ABC News: Carbs May Hurt You

On tonight's ABC Evening News there was a short, low-carb friendly discussion of diet and health with emphasis on the carbs-insulin connection. There will be a webcast discussion tomorrow (Wednesday, January 9) at noon (EST).

Here's the blurb and link from ABC News's website. There's a form if you want to submit a question.

The Risks of Too Many Carbs
Live Chat: Nutrition Expert Dr. Walter Willett

For more than a decade, the public health message has been loud and clear: Eat less fat and more carbohydrates. Millions of Americans have heeded the call. But some doctors say too many Americans have gone too far in the switch to carbs. Dr. Walter Willett, chairman of the department of nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, says it’s not the amount of carbohydrates you eat but the type that matters. "What's become quite clear is that not all carbohydrates are the same," Willett tells ABCNEWS. In his new book, Eat, Drink and Be Healthy, Willett rebuilds the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Pyramid, which he says is based on "shaky scientific ground," replacing it with his own dietary guidelines. You can chat live with Willett Wednesday, Jan. 9, at noon ET on ABCNEWS.com.

Thumbs up Yeah for us!

I heard it too. I made everyone in the kitchen stop and listen, along with my snide comments, like 'see there'.

I can personally testify that for almost ten years I ate less and less food, more and more carbs and gained more and more weight.

I love it when they have these updates, but the networks usually treat them like a joke. And they never give credit to Dr. Atkins who said all this over twenty years ago.

Maybe I'll have to check out this new book.

glad that this WOE is getting some air time...but Atkins didn't invent LCing! Banting could take credit but I've also read Rousseau (in translation) on a natural diet...he was a paleo guy before Audette and Cordain!

Kaye,
Your right about that. Low carb is the only way I am going now and I really don't care who came up with it. Who every it was he/she was an I haven't felt this good since I was in my 20's.
Have a great lo carb day.

Thanks Alto (and Wa'il for sending me to this post.)

Such a refreshing break from all the lo-fat hype on TV and in magazines. I don't know when I've turned on the TV for more than an hr. without someone coming on and saying " use THIS ( totally nutritionless, white flour, sugar packed ) product as part of YOUR healthy lo-fat diet!" Make me sick. So glad someone is getting the word out there about what a balanced meal REALLY is!
