Default Malitol

I have noticed many new carb bars for sale at the store that claim to be low carb. They might say 17 carbs - but then subtract a carb for fiber and then subtract 14 for malitol. Are these really only 2 carbs then or is it a marketing ploy?

Thanks for any insight!

Peg

Supposedly you can subtract malitol grams from the total carb grams but I found that if I eat Malitol products (bars, choco bars, Ice Cream, candy) that I stall out and in some cases, gives me terrible tummy problems. I have noticed that I also get knocked out (per the test strip that is) if I eat more than, for instance, 1/2 bar, of somethin with malitol in it.

So all I can say is be cautious...if you notice your test strips or if you notice yourself not losing than don't eat the items with malitol.

Becareful.
Most bars are WAY over what the truth is. Malitol is famous for sending people to the washroom.
You may want to check into another form of snack...

Take care.

Currently all four of my family members are on Atkins WOE. When we want candy, we split one of those candy bars four ways and each get a taste of something sweet. In small amounts, they don't seem to harm us.

I ate four cookies before I read the disclaimer about malitol and what it does to your insides... I didnt sleep well that night.

One cookies or wahtever snack it is wont hurt you, just dont binge... or you'll pay.

Mailitol is BRUTAL..be very careful..If i eat a Ross choc bar..my stomach will get the 'grumblies'..kinda flopping....but if i eat Mailitol Gummy Bears..which main ingredient is that...WATCH OUT!!! I ate about 1/2 cup of them..and literally was in the washroom ALL night till morning...worst i've ever had..stomach pains like you wouldn't believe

Be very careful..and only eat small amounts...that really isn't good for your system
