I've been doing very well - losing weight and overall inches - for fun the other night, I thought I'd try on my shorts from summer - TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT - the waist was as tight now as it was in the summer, is there a way I can concentrate on losing in my waist faster - should I start cutting calories or get more cardio into my program - I am so disappointed by this.

No, you cannot spot reduce.

Try searching through the general exercise forum, Vikki for "Spot Reducing" - you'll find quite a few threads on the subject.

Unfortunately it appears that the waist is going to be the last area for you that tones down - we all have an area like that. Trade you one waist for 2 thighs

I'll take the 2 thighs for the thin waist!

Hi Vikki, it seems I'm in the same boat as you! I don't know if this is the same thing with you, but I can tell that with my bodytype, even with a lower bodyfat percentage than I have now my waist will still be proportionately larger than I would like. I do have long slender legs.. of which I would trade off inches for negative waist inches.. but anyway, if you don't happen to have the type of figure with a naturally small waist compared to the rest of your body a "trick" you can do is to build the rest of your body bigger. Eg: larger glute and thigh muscles, wider/stronger shoulders and your waist will look smaller in comparison. On top of that, of course, you should incorperate pilates type exercises for the waist, if you don't want to invest in a book yet a good website with pictures and descriptions of a multitude of "narrowing" ab exercises is

take care,
Meg
