I'd like to echo the question above about refeed principles.

Is there any hard evidence regarding exactly WHAT a refeed should contain? I mean, would it be SUGAR, (the enemy..), ALSO?

Here is what works spectacularly well for me.

Essentially, I stay on induction all the time.

Every other weekend(or every third weekend), I break it hard, starting on Friday night. Actually, I nuke bomb it. Gut grenades galore. Dr Peppers, peanut m&m's, cheetos, mcdonald's french fries, you name it......... even beer.

On these "breakout weekends"(ALWAYS planned well in advance) I behave until Friday night. At that point, it's time for the fun to start. Saturday is absolutely sinful. I indulge like a total pig. This keeps up until sunday afternoons, at which point I will eat some more sugar, but no more carbs.

Monday morning, I'm back on induction hard core.

I have been on atkins for two months now, and have lost 40 pounds.

TC

Reading this and the attending articles has been very informative. Tomorrow is Sunday, and I think I'll eat whatever comes to mind. Since I haven't been eating more than a thousand cals a day, or more than 25 carbs, it might shake up my metabolism some. Then on Monday, do a Body for Life day, then go back to Atkins induction, just to see what happens.

Thanks for all the good information.

Deb

The links listed above in Post #9, by Groggy60, explain everything very well. Here is a very brief excerpt from the second one in reference to leptin:

"What I am now going to suggest that the dieter should do may appear, on the surface, to fly in the face of common sense. In order to keep fat loss going, the dieter needs to eat MORE, not less. And, I do not mean having a slice of pizza or eating maintenance calories for a day. I am talking about what is essentially pigging out for 12-48 hours -- and, to top it off, most of your calories will come from the evil 'carbohydrate'.

Default Refeeding

I have been doing Atkins for 14 months. I have been the same weight for 3 months. I have never cheated. I guess I should try the re feed?
I know my brother in law cheats about every weekend and we have lost the same amount of weight 50 pounds.

Now I don't feel so bad. I'm into week 4 of induction (yes 4 weeks) I made it down to 111 but started adding hot sauce to my foods and woke up this morning at 115. It started out with an Atkins ice cream bar then progressed to my daughters girl scout cookies, and then some Breyer's lc ice cream. I really did it this time but promise to start a clean induction tomorrow.

Well, I managed to have a sort of unplanned refeed. As of Saturday, I had lost two pounds...which means I was no longer stalling. My fiance and future mother in law and I went to Carmel (where we are getting married) to show her the wedding/ceremony site and then we decided to go ahead and go cake tasting since she wants to buy our wedding cake. I have been avoiding the cake tasting intentionally because, I can't eat it! So, we went to two places. The first place, I chewed a piece of gum and asked their opinions of each cake, but didn't even have a taste. The second place was a french bakery and the cakes looked really different and tasty. So, I went ahead and had a few bites. Then we went to dinner and I had a glass of champagne, small helping of potatoes au gratin and bread with olive oil as well as other LC food. It was really nice to just have a celebration dinner and not have to worry about what I was eating. Then later we went bowling with a few other couples and I had some popcorn and a two beers. I figured I might as well make the best of my night off.

Next morning I got on the scale and was another pound down. But I felt terrible. Incredible headache, very lethargic, almost felt fluish. It was a full blown hangover...a carbohyrate hang over! It was pretty darn bad. And of course, like any hangover, I immediately swore off the culprit - in this case it's carbs. hehehe. I do feel better today. And yesterday I went right back on induction and am still going strong today. I am back into ketosis and feel much better now that I am back to LC. My weekly weigh-in day is tomorrow and I will let you all know how it goes. Unfortunately, I am not sure that refeeding will be the cause of my loss this week since I was already loosing.

I am not planning to do any more refeeds anytime soon. I may consider it if I am stalled, but knowing how yucky I will feel the next day, may keep me off of the carbs!

However, if I was stalled for three months, I would absolutely refeed. Just make sure that you are committing to a number of days of hours to refeed and that once your refeed is over, you go right back onto induction, no expections.

Hi guys.....I've been reading up on this refeed thing as well. I haven't gotten on the scale for a couple of weeks and finally weighed in today! I've gained 2 1/2 lbs I don't know where I went wrong but I work out 5 days a week on the treadmill and run 6 miles and also do THE FIRM entire body workout 2-3 times a week. Now last week I forgot to warm up before getting on the treadmill ( bad left knee) and my knee has been swollen for a week! So I didn't get on the treadmill at all this week and only did the FIRM thing all week except for yesterday. Now that poundage couldn't be because I've built muscle could it? I measured myself today and finally lost a couple inches here and there but what gets me is the gained weight! SHould I do this refeed thing and if so how to begin? I'm too scared to try the whole entire weekend thing so was debating on today. Do I work out and then refeed later or just hang out refeed and work out tomorrow as well as starting back on induction? THis really brings me down. NOw I'm depressed! What to do ??????

Yes I am also I lost 4 k in the first 3 weeks and nothing since. This is the end of my 7th week and have not lost any weight or measurements since the third week.
I have not had anything I should not have and am still keep my carbs between 20 and 30 mostly at the 20 end of the scale. I do have a fair amount of cream cheese cheese and cream but do not go over the recomended amounts on most days.
I have to add I am feeling really good and worried if I go off even for a meal I may not be able to get back to this WOE.

Default Pizza Pigout

My wife and I did a Pizza Pigout, followed by Baskin Robbins. I gained 4 pounds overnight...but I dont mess around! When I crash I go hard.
I lost 2 back by this afternoon, but we are back to straight induction. Gotta get more greens in the diet.
I will keep posting the results of being off for a night.
Luke

Hi LuddyBell, I promise I'll be careful. This all makes sense to me, but my son is getting married on the 14th and I can't afford to go high carb for too long. Just want to see what the overall effect will be on me, and if the BAD cravings come back. If they do, and I start roaming the kitchen, I'll eat some protein and be back on track. Thanks for thinking of me.
