Default hyperactive thyroid, and induction weight loss?

hey everyone. i have lost 10 pounds so far (give or take maybe 3, i dont totally trust my scale), but im on day 15 of the induction, meaning the standard 2 weeks is over. im feeling a little disheartened, since i heard and was told that most people lose quite a bit more than that in the first 2 weeks.
first, i was wondering if it is bad to add some more time on the induction? i was thinking i might add 1 more week, just b/c i dont think i was drinking enough water for part of the first week (i thought seltzer was ok, and it is ok to drink, but you still have to drink the required amount of water too).
also, i was wondering if maybe the slow weight loss is due to the medication i am on for my thyroid, tapazole (5mg a day)? any one know if that causes slow progress on the atkins diet?
any help would be great, thanks.

Matt.

hi Matt,

According to Atkins New Diet Revolution, in the chapter about Ongoing Weight Loss, men who have 20 - 50 lbs to lose can expect to lose 9 lbs on average during the 14-day Induction period. 6 lbs or less is considered slow, 12 lbs is fast. So I'd say you're right on target.

Yes, you can stay on Induction longer than 2 weeks; many folks do, especially those who have a lot of weight to lose, or whose rate of loss is slow. You just need to take care to not let food boredom creep in, and to ensure that most of your 20-gram allotment is coming from high-fiber veggies and salads.

Have a read through this article, from the Atkins Nutritionals website ... Are You Ready to Move Beyond Induction?, it should help to answer some questions for you.

Congrats on your success so far

Doreen
