hi K,

Yes, canned veggies are fine .. as long as it's just plain veggies, with no sauce or added sugar. Read the ingredients carefully, and check the nutrient panel to be sure of the carb count and how much is one serving.

The reason some folks frown on canned veggies is because of the SALT content. You'd be wise to drain and rinse off the canning liquid. Or choose products without added salt.

If you have no other choice, use them, but frozen are far better, easier to use as to measuring.

Some beleive that the frozen veggies have a higher Vit. content as MOST Co.'s pick, then freeze in the same day, so it's not been sitting in a truck for days, then the store, then our fridges.
Canned may be the same way, if its a good brand, but like Doreen says it's the hidden stuff.

What ever works best for your schedule, Cheers Kathy

I agree with the above on frozen veggies.

Usually, I opt for the frozen veggies mainly for taste and expedience. Nothing worse than trying to pick from fresh veggies especially when one hasn't the slightest inclination of what constitutes as a "good looking" veggie. Tastewise, in my view, frozen veggies taste better--not as strong in taste which for me is optimum when veggies are concerned.

Also, I've read several scientific studies which support the veracity that frozen veggies because of being frozen when newly picked often have a higher content of fresh veggies which are out in the open for a week or two before making it to our grocery shelves then spending another week in our fridges. Obviously, frozen veggies avoid this altogether.

Here in Dallas we have a Farmer's Market downtown - the stalls have to be labelled as whether the seller is an actual farmer or a wholesaler.

I've also found the veggies at Whole Foods to be fresher and better tasting.

Of course, nothing beats growing your own - exercise and the freshest tasting produce possible.

Canned veggies often have huge amounts of sodium in them. Rinse them before you eat them.

Personally, I'd rather eat dirt than canned veggies.

I don't know, but I don't think they have any nutrition, not much anyway, I've tried the tinned green beans before and they are a very odd colour green. I've also tried a few other tinned veg, they were all very soggy.

LOL!!

You guys are a scream

I agree, fresh is best, frozen next best and canned is a last resort. But I have to say there are circumstances where canned is the better choice .. for example, tomatoes. Where I live, fresh tomatoes in winter are .. blecchhhh! The pale, tasteless, pulpy "things" that grocers try to sell for exhorbitant prices just aren't worth my time or money. Possibly cherry tomatoes, but they're not suitable for cooking. And yes, I'm way past Induction

Other folks may have have storage problems such as limited fridge and freezer space. Or, fresh vegetables simply aren't available where they live.
