Question Question re: food labels

Hi,

I have a question re: food labeling. If the Ingredient list doesn't contain any type of sugars (corn syrup, frutose, etc.), but under carbs it says "Sugars" and then the grams are listed, does that mean that the sugar is natural (like with fruit) and not added, like corn sryup or white sugar?

TIA for your reply.

Jill

Yes, "sugars" declared under the carbohydrate category on a food label includes that which occurs naturally in the food, as well as any sugar, syrup, honey etc which is added.

hth,

Thanks Doreen,

So does that mean they should be avoided??

There is a post on the general board about yogurt and the brand I picked up at the store is the normal fat variety and doesn't have any sugar listed on the label (just milk cultures, etc.), but does have naturual sugars under the carbs. I love yogurt and by adding a bit of Splenda and maybe LC jam to it, that could be a real treat!
