How many of you eat oatmeal in the morning? What is your serving size? Before Atkin's I ate it EVERY morning, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup dry oatmeal micro for five minutes. yum. I miss it!!! I thought it would be too high in carbs. For the last month I have had eggs every morning. I really need your advice!!
At the present I am on the owl, and I am ranging around 25-30 carbs a day. I don't know how you guys get exact numbers.
Thanks

Have you tried any of the FlaxOMeal cereals? A lot of people seem to enjoy them for a change of pace and they're sorta like oatmeal. I just bought a box today and am seriously looking forward to having anything but eggs for breakfast tomorrow.

I have about #25 of organic thick rolled oats in my freezer. I really don't have any desire to try any other cerial. I am hoping
when I get closer to my goal, that I can eat it maybe 2-3 times a week. I really do enjoy it.

Since going on owl, my appettite has come back. Is this normal?
Induction was so much easier, You didn't have to count the carbs and I was never hungry. I can truley say, I haven't cheated yet!!

the Keto Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal isn't bad, unless you get it too thick.......I put a nice chunk of butter, no sweetner needed

This recipe is from Doreen and uses oats. So there is hope of making a dent in that 25 pound bag!

In her words...

I experimented with a few ingredients, and came up with a hot cereal that is low carb -- 5g net or effective carbs PLUS 3.3g fiber per serving -- AND it tastes good.

The recipe makes 10 Tbsp dry cereal. Divided into 3 portions will yield a generous bowl of porridge when the water is added.

Doreen's Muesli

2 Tbsp "quick" oats (not instant)
2 Tbsp wheat germ
2 Tbsp chopped almonds
2 Tbsp chopped walnuts
2 Tbsp ground flax seeds
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
place all but the flax seeds in a dry skillet. Toast lightly over medium heat ... remove when it's just starting to get golden and smells nice and toasty -- it will scorch easily.
let it cool; stir in ground flax seeds, then store in a tightly covered container in the fridge. Will keep for a week; longer in freezer.
makes 3 servings.
to prepare for eating: place 3 rounded Tbsp of dry cereal in bowl -- add a wee pinch of salt if desired. Pour in 1/2 cup boiling water, stir, then place a saucer or some improvised cover over the bowl and let it stand for 3 minutes. You may wish to add a little more water. Add a dot of butter, some vanilla or sprinkle of cinnamon, sweetener of choice, any other flavour of choice. Pour on a little cream and enjoy.
For the recipe - calories: 330, fat: 25g, carbs: 25g / fiber: 10g (15g ECC), protein: 14g
per serving - calories: 110, fat: 8.3g, carbs: 8.3g / fiber: 3.3g (5g ECC), protein: 4.7g
Default Oatmeal
Hi Junebug,
I eat oatmeal in the mornings (few times a week) I use 1/3 cup or 1/2 cup of dry quick oats and water and cook in the microwave.
I know that throws my carb levels out of wack for Atkins, but I hav been doing well. I only have 10 or so pounds to lose. So I am looking for long term way of eating.
Oatmeal is suppose to be low GI. If I do have a carb meal it is in the mornings...rest of my day is low carb.
Talking The bowl of Oatmeal Won
As I stared at it. I just got Keto Old fashioned Oatmeal - have not tried it yet but my friend said it is great. Also like others said all Flaxo-meal and Carbsense hot cereals are very good. Just had Spice and Hazelnuts carbsense Hot Cereal this morning. Needs three packets of splenda per serving for my taste.
Thank you Karen and Doreen for the muesli recipe. I've been missing oatmeal, hot cereal too. Will give this a try on a cold, snowy morning. Thanks.
Default oatmeal mornings
After a week on Atkins Induction, I found I could not face another no-carb breakfast. After a week of induction, we were asked what we wanted most...my husband missed red wine and candy, but I was longing for a bowl of oatmeal and fruit.
I have gone to having 1/3 c. cooked oatmeal topped with plain yogurt and fruit , with a drizzle of creamo (half and half) for breakfast. The rest of the day is regular induction dining. If I keep losing weight, I'll settle very happily on that formula until I reach goal weight.
Since we added the oatmeal, the headaches, nausea and fatigue that dogged us have dropped away.
Cheers all!
Janet
