Default GNC Suggests.....

I was at a GNC Store today...

I told the person working there I was on Atkins and was looking for some low carb peanut butter.

She immediartly asked me for my blood type, which is A positive.
She said I should stay away from beef and pork and eat vegetables, chicken, fish.

A positives's don't process fat as well as other blood types.

Is GNC correct on this stuff?
I found a link that describes this idea further....

Not in my opinion! I am type "A" and I seem to be processing fat just fine.

According to the Blood Type Diet, type "A" folk should virtually be vegetarian. I'm here to tell you that I am much better off eating red meat, fat etc. No more IBS, no more cholesterol lowering medications.

There is no scientific basis for the claims made about this diet.

Have a look at this site for more reassurance:

Default Hokey

Yes, it sounds hokey to me. I've not seen any legitimate research that would support this idea. And the eras in which these various blood types have supposedly evolved is without substance as far as I can ascertain. Aside from lactose intolerance I can see nothing that is demonstrable in the site. I think that all of us should balance our protein intake and not over eat the beef fat. But I also think many of us have already proven that the Atkins concept works just fine.
Thanks for the interesting post though. I love to read anything interesting.

Here's a good rule to follow, anytime someone from GNC gives you advice, hit them with a protein bar and RUN!!! If there is one store with more underqualified people (I mean in every GNC store I've ever been to, in about 5 states), I'd be surprised. Usually they are trying to push their own crappy product line...Pro Performance or some crap. I went in there once, becasue I was at a mall and wanted a protien bar...this very old woman kept tryin to sell me one of their high carb bars because "It has all the aminos and vitamins you need." I've been lifting weights for 10 years, I'm glad this 90year old lady knew more about lifting than me.

P.S. Natural peanutbutter works just fine. 4-5 net carbs a serving. The kind I buy (Smuckers Natural, no salt) lists the only ingredient as: peanuts.

Love it! I almost woke the kids from laughing so hard!
A friend of mine told me she only goes in there once a month when their vitamins are on sale. She's a fellow LCer, got me started on my new WOL.

I've read articles that say that "eating for your blood type" theory is bull. Your blood type has nothing to do with your metabolism or what your should eat.

GNC and other mall stores..I never tusted the people who work there. I always consider them just mall workers, workig in a store at the mall. No knowledge of the product they are selling.

I went into Vitamin World and saw a girl working in there who started workingout at the gym. Before I knew she was working at that Vitamin World she as asking me all about diets and working out...she really had no clue what she was doing. Then a few days later I saw her working at Vitamin World giving advise to customers about nutrition adn vitamin dosage.
Right then and there, I figured all people who are working at 'mall stores" are just that...mall workers. No clue what they are are selling.
