Default constipation..

Hey all,

So I don't know if its just me.. but when I don't lose weight I get REALLY constipated.. So that is going on 3 weeks now no weight loss.. and having a hard time in the restroom.. for the first time in my life I have been getting hemorrhoids (sorry TMI!!) And I'm soooo tired of this.. I'm in pain every time I have to go to restroom. I've been eating enough fiber, like 2+ cups a broccoli most days.. my fat is high.. this just happens every time I stall.
Can I take a stool softener?

Sorry Candice that you are dealing with this. Are you drinking lots of water? I know that helps me. Some people also take Magnesium to help, this did not help me at all, made it worse. Choc also causes me issues.

I take Senokot-S, it is a all natural vegetable laxative. It works very well. I have always had chronic constipation issues and had to have hemroids removed in 2007 and the doctor put me on Senokot-S at that time, I still take it everynight to this day per her directions.

Hope that you are feeling better really soon.

Dairy does that to me, cheese in particular. If you're eating a lot of cheese, it might be doing you no favors.

Another thought is to use some flax seed meal and make yourself some pancakes or bread of some sort.

Before one of my colonoscopy preps a nurse remarked "most people will lose five to eight pounds"

I found Epsom salts to be quite effective, but mostly I rely on Milk of Magnesia generic brand when needed.

I had a rough bout of this recently - nearly landed in the emergency room one weekend and traced the cause to a new vitamin with lots of iron. Wanted to keep the iron so with help from this forum counter-balanced that with a magnesium supplement. Now in perfect balance though I did have to learn to take the magnesium mid day in order to avoid insomnia side effects. HTH!

Too much fibre can bind you up.
Try a glycerine suppository to soften things and allow you to expel it.

Watch the iron! Too much (any, for me) can cause me to have constipation, or at least more trouble going. I up the coconut oil if I need to.

Why are you buying iron supps? You need to have bloodwork first to see if you are deficient-you can get ill from too much iron and it is constipating. If you buy mag supps don't get the oxide-get a chelated form of magnesium, such as magnesium citrate, glycinate or malate.

Milk thistle seems to work for me.
Also taking a full rounded Tablespoon of coconut oil a day helps as well.
But to really get it moving like now-i'd try miralax, mag citrate or an enema.
And yes Iron can slow things down so my doc always recommends more water when taking iron. If you are already drinking 3 gals (did i read that right? wow!) then you may want to give the doc a call just to have a chat about what is going on.

I ended up getting nothing. I just don't want anymore interactions/side effects from taking more supplements. I will just wait a few more days.. if still in pain I will take a stool softener.

Candiflip, this has been an ongoing issue for me as well the past couple of years. It's very frustrating when you do everything you are told to do, eat a near perfect diet and still have these issues. Completely cutting out dairy has helped tremendously but is not the end all solution. I wish I knew what was.
