Belong in terms of what? You can read other low-carb plans to see which one is more suitable for you.

Have you read Rustpot's post?

Belong in the "Atkins" part of this forum..is what I mean.

There is no Mediterrainian-Atkins forum, you know, people who do low carb but do have a preference when it comes to KINDS of fats consumed and stick to leaner proteins.... Am I alone? - Of course I always watch carb count.

Mine:
Leaner proteins when possible
50gms of fat daily usually, not too much more (and omega 3's if I can - no sat/tran/hydrog)
and 20-30 nonstarch carbs - still very low carb

Atkins:
All kinds of fatty protein
Higher fat % (including saturated)
Carbs vary - from person to person depending on where they are on the plan. Anywhere from 20-their CCL

I don't eat sat fat or tran or hydrog if I can help it. I eat lean proteins only. So can I post in Atkins or ?

...no I have not read Rustpot's stuff.

You're welcome to post in the Atkins forum, General or any other plan you follow.

But keep in mind, the assumption that Mediterrainian diet, or the Chinese diet are low-fat, is a myth.

Default Not lowfat/lowER fat

I don't really do LOWfat, but I certainly don't do the higher/high fat recipes/foods that regular Atkins practices.

Key features of the Mediterranean diet:

I do not do these:

High consumption of breads, pasta, rice, couscous, polenta, bulgur and potatoes
High consumption of fruits (3-4 pieces a day), legumes and vegetables (5 different varieties)
Alcohol in small amounts

But I do these:

Moderate amounts of grilled and steamed fish
Moderate amounts of olive oil and healthy fats
consumed with fresh vegetables and on salads
Small portions of lean red meat with no visible fat, lean pork
High intake of antioxidants
Regular exercise is believed to be such an important part of Mediterranean health that it is part of the Mediterranean pyramid.

When it comes to the Mediteranean diet, you might be interested in this article: http://www.westonaprice.org/traditi...anean_diet.html

It might not be what has been presented to us all these years after all.

nsmith4366, what you are eating is perfect. Even though the
Atkins diet allows for high fat consumption, taking efa's along
with lean protein, and your veggies is real good. In my opinion
I rank exercise up there with nutrition and vitamins. Good
Luck with your program, it looks like you are headed in the
right direction.

Thank you thank you - I appreciate the vote of confidence. The way I eat is not easy, takes planning and discipline, but I feel fantastice. I'm just trying to take the best of all the diets and make my own optimal plan.

Lean proteins
Nonstarch veggies
healthier fats (some/not to low) fat for flavor/not a foodgroup
exercise daily
I don't limit amounts or calories really, they just naturally wind up low usually because I get full.
nonprocessed just is healthier, most processed foods contain fillers, hydrogenated oils and trans fats.

I wish I had some "joiners" to my plan, but I don't even have a name for it. Anyone up to this challenge? You can still eat all you want - within these guidelines. I swear some days I eat all day long - and I'm doing fine. I eat because I enjoy eating, but I'm never really HUNGRY STARVING or out of control with food.

Cheating never even enters my mind, I feel too good to cheat.
Cheating to me would be eating an extra handful of walnuts or
a little bacon with my breakfast (eggwhite omelette).

Thanks again for the response and the support. This is truly the best message board for lc on the web!

Everybody is different, if what you are doing is working for you, fine. It is too low fat to be Atkins, and while saturated fat may be something that you have physical difficulty with, it is not a "bad" fat but quite beneficial in most cases. Overall you seem to be eating low carb and you certainly will get benefits from that. DLB
