Question Protein Shakes

Just joined this page today.

I have been searching the boards for about 2 hours, looking for some new recipes to get me "re"-motivated and give me some variety.

Went to my local Health Food store today and got some Protein Powder, Flax Seed, Unsweetened Coconut Flakes, and several bottles in different flavors of the liquid coffee flavorings.

Would like some ideas for a morning Shake.

Did find a muffin recipe I am going to make tonight.

Hi Char and welcome to the forum!

Not sure I can help you with the protein shake recipe because I don't really use them, but you might want to check the ingredients list on those coffee flavorings. Many of them are loaded with sugar.

The coffee flavorings I purchased are "sugar free" so I hope I can find some good recipes to use them in.

I added a small amount to my coffee in the morning, and was very good.

I have been using protein shakes for a long time. I found some chocolate protein powder at Nutrition City that is $30 for 5lbs of powder. Its great and way cheaper then GNC. I use two scoops of powder (48 grams Protein) and a half a cup of skim milk and 2 cups+ of water. It is less then 10 grams of carbs depending on the amount of milk you use. Some people use cream. I blend it with one of those hand blenders and away I go . I made it a custom food in my FitDay account and its 240 calories tops and it fills me up. If you want to add some other flavor to it and a few more carbs add a tbls of Malt powder, oooooh good.

Laura

Greetings from Ocean Shores

I have a co-worker that has lost 70 pounds on Atkins.

She has given me her shake recipe, and they are wonderful. She is also sending me a "ton" of recipes, so many, she is putting them on a CD, rather than email. I can't wait to get it.

She uses Sugar Free coffee flavorings made with Splenda. No calories, and no carbs!!! (brands names of Torani and Davinci) In fact, often times the Coffee stands carry some SF flavorings, so I did have a Vanilla Latte - small cheat, as I know it does have milk.

Here is her shake recipe:

4 oz Whipping Cream
4 oz SF Coffee flavoring (of your choice)
1 scoop protein powder (vanilla, chocolate)
1 egg
crushed ice.

Blend (I use my "Thunder Stick")

This morning I used Raspberry flavoring with vanilla protein powder. Yesterday I used chocolate flavoring and chocolate protein powder. They are delicious, and quite filling.

There are many of the SF coffee flavorings, Vanilla, Chocolate, Raspberry, Root Beer, Carmel, Irish Cream and Hazel Nut, to name a few. She also uses the flavorings in place of water and any sugar in recipes. I have two great flax seed muffins recipes, using the flavorings - Banana Walnut and Chocolate Pecan ***YUM*** and only 2.5 carbs each.

Laura

Somehow my muffin recipes ended up as a new post, and now someone has moved them to "sweet treats".

Hoping you will share some of your recipes also.
