weights question
Okay, I was all hyped up and wanted to start bfl today but it looks like I don't have the right equipment yet. Here's what I got:
1 barbell (my husband says it weighs 14.4 pounds but I think he's wrong)
2 dumbbell bars
1 curl bar
1- 2.5# weight
2- 4.4# weight
3- 5# weights
4- 8.8# weights
4- 10# weights
3- 15# weights
This seems very unevenly weighted to me. Anyway, I was thinking that I probably need at least 3 more 2.5# weights, 1 5# weight, and maybe 1 more 15# weight. What do you think? Should I get any 20# weights?
Now, this is my bigger dilemma simply because I do not understand how this works. The barbell bar is threaded with threaded collars, so I understand that. The curl bar has nothing on it as yet. The dumbbells have these collars on them that have square headed nuts on them. They are rusty and at this point I cannot take them off easily. Can these be replaced with spring collars? Just what the heck do spring collars do? Keep the weights on? Are they quick and easy? Are they universal or am I going to have to measure something? I just don't get all the collar gadgets and I have a hard time finding a simple website that explains this mess for the extreme beginner.
Thanks!
