Not really. I read a ton of information online as well as Protein Power and Dr A's latest book prior to and since starting low-carb.
I've had several physicians, including a gastroenterologist, tell me that your dietary intake of fat and/or cholesterol has very little to do with your cholestrol/lipid levels.
There is all kinds of evidence out there showing how and why this works. Check out ther media section if you haven't already!

And it all makes sense! Before starting Atkins I had followed low-fat/high carb for over a year, trying to loose weight. After gaining almost 20 pounds over 7 months I decided to give BFL a try. I lost 18 pounds following the Body For Life (BFL) program for 2 months. (This is a high protein, high carb, low fat diet and exercise program.) And I craved sweets and carbs constantly! I was eating 5-6 meals a day....and all I wanted was candy, bread, anything! As long as it had carbs I wanted it!
I lost an additional 24 pounds in just 10 weeks following Atkins. I feel great and have almost no cravings.
I had been looking at diet and exercise guidelines online when I found the Atkins site. It was sooooo me! I knew my blood sugars were all over the place....and I knew my cholesterol and triglycerides had gone up. Triglycerides were too high to give an accurate result....over 900! This was at the end of a year of low fat eating and a 4 month period of strictly following a low fat, low calorie, moderate exercise stint.
I'm waiting now for results of repeat blood levels. But I'm not nervous. I hope they have fallen.....but will continue to follow this WOE. I figure if nothing else, the low sugar/carb intake is good for me....I've not felt this good in a long time! And the exercise certainly can't hurt!
In addition to reading info online, you really should read at least 1 low-carb book.
