Question Ketone Test Strip Question

Is there anyway a test strip can turn purple but a person is not losing weight?
Mine turn lavender/purple depending on the time of day and I am losing but much slower now , talked about that in a previous thread.
Does it matter how dark a strip turns or just as long as it turns some shade of purple.

Hi there Bigshooter,

Congratulations on your weight loss so far, you're doing wonderfully!

I basically believe that the strips are a waste of time and money.

Yes, it is certainly possible to be in ketosis without losing weight, and it is also possible to lose weight without being in ketosis!

You can spill ketones into the urine for many reasons. Burning fat is one of those reasons. But the strips can also change colour if you have just eaten a very fatty meal, drunk some alcohol, or are dehydrated (whether or not you are low carbing).

Conversely, if you are drinking lots of water, you may actually be in ketosis, but have diluted the effect so much that the strips don't change colour.

If you do still want to use them, it doesn't matter how dark they are, you are either in ketosis or you're not. In fact lighter is better, because dark often means you should be drinking more.

And Vegitarian, you might want to do some reading. You'll find information about ketostix in Dr Atkins' book.

My strips were purple - pink - barely pink - and it made no difference on the rate of my loss. Actually last time I showed "trace" I lost 3 lbs that week. This week I've been purple and I'm actually up 1 lb. Go figure.

Talking ketostix

I just bought some ketostix at the pharmacy a few days ago to start testing my ketotine levels...just to check out how I was doing. So...just go up to the pharmacy at any drug store and ask for them. They are actually used by diabetics to check their ketotine levels. If it gets too high ...its can be dangerous for them... going into a coma..etc. I have diabeties in my family, and I am borderline hypoglycemic, so this was a concern to me...so i check every day , just to make sure that im not over doing it.
I just have to say...Ive done research that doing the low carb diet is actually better for hypoglycemics, because it helps regulate blood sugar levels. I stand behind this 100% from experience now. Just in one short week I've gone from being shakey between meals and always having to carry something with me to snack on..like a lifesaver. I havnt felt this way for the past week! It has really helped! ...Not to mention the weight loss 5 pounds and counting!
