Default ross chocolate bars

Hi everyone,

I needed some clarification about ross chocolate bars. On the label it says the bar has 2.9 grams of carbs. I went into the hidden carb calculator on this website and it said the bar had 14.16 grams of carbs!! Could this be right or did I make a mistake. There was also another calculation that said 3.7 grams. I don't know which one is right. Can someone please help me out about this situation.

In a way, both the high and the low totals are correct.

The low value does not include the sugar alcohols which are used to sweeten the bars, most likely maltitol. It is believed that these bars do not cause a surge in insulin production and that may be true for some people but not for others. The manufacturers feel justified in listing the bars as 2-3 gm carb because of this (including the Atkins Advantage and candy bars). Some people stall badly when eating things with sugar alcohol in them.

One warning: maltitol is a VERY powerful laxative so please be cautious in eating the bars and start with only 2 squares until you see how you react. Some people have reported eating a whole bar and spending the next day in the bathroom!
